Projectors, Screens & Monitors

A projector is a projector right? Not exactly. There is a science to projectors and screens.  Purchase the right projector and screen and you get outstanding results, purchase the wrong combination and well …. let’s just say the results will be less than spectacular.

At ION Security we have two decades of experience designing multimedia systems and systems integration.  With an on-site visit to your home or business we can determine what type of projector will best fit your needs, including where to install it and how many lumens are required for your application.

Projector DLP or LCD:

Today’s projectors come in two basic design technologies DLP or LCD.  DLP projectors and TV’s have more moving parts then their LCD counterparts and therefore have more things to go wrong.  The color wheel used in DLP projectors is often found to wear out prematurely in commercial applications requiring expensive repair or replacement of projector.  In addition the color wheel can cause motion blur on fast moving video which generally influences us to recommend LCD Projector for most commercial applications.  LCD projectors come in single chip and multiple chip models.  We prefer the 3chip models over single chip designs.  Lastly projectors come in all kinds of resolutions and lumens ratings.  Generally for HDTV video presentations a 720 or 1080p 16:9 resolution is preferred while for power point and slide show presentations a 4:3, VGA, SVGA or XVGA resolution is all that’s required.  Lumens is the measurement used to rate the brightness of a projector.  Generally the more lumens the brighter the picture and better the projected image will look especially in a bright board room or room with lots of windows or ambient light. Several other factors must be accounted for including the contrast ratio and gain of the screen therefore more lumens doesn’t always equate to a better picture or viewing experience.

Motorized, Manual or Fixed Screen:

Another decision needed to be made with projector is screen size, aspect ratio and screen type.  Several choices abound.  Fixed screens are generally the best and should be used whenever possible.  Manual pull down and motorized screen are used whenever a fixed screen cannot or when a screen is only used infrequently.  Motorized and pull down screens come in non-tensioned and tensioned versions, again if possible the tensioned screen provides the best image result and closest to that of a fixed screen.  Screen size is generally determined by where the screen is going to be installed, how far the distance is from the screen to the closest viewer and various other factors.

Whenever possible the wall the screen is located on should be painted dark color with a a flat, matte or eggshell finish.

Does your business need a little technology boost? We can install projectors, plasmas, and LCD flat panel televisions and monitors as well as high definition TV cabling for your restaurant, bar, conference or board room.
